FAQ

Here are the most frequently asked questions about Z Code.

1. What is Z Code's product positioning?

Z Code is a new kind of Agentic Development Environment (ADE). Unlike traditional IDEs, Z Code is not centered around manual code editing — instead, it puts AI Agents in the driver's seat. Simply describe your requirements in natural language, and Agents handle the entire development workflow from coding and debugging to preview.

  • ADE Platform: Integrates CLI tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini, with built-in file management, terminal, Git commits, and live browser preview. Drive Agents via natural language to complete full lifecycle development tasks.
  • Full Context Awareness: Agents deeply understand project structure, file contents, and UI visual elements — no need to memorize complex command-line parameters.
  • Future Direction: Evolving into a multi-Agent collaborative Vibe Coding platform. Orchestrator Agents will schedule multiple specialized CLI tools (as Workers) to complete complex tasks together. Just describe your requirements, and the Agent matrix collaborates to deliver.

2. Is Z Code free?

The Z Code tool itself is completely free. However, you need to provide your own API Key. Supported providers include:

  • Zhipu AI: GLM Coding Plan, Resource Packs, Z.AI.
  • Native: Claude Code / Codex / Gemini native API plans.
  • Aggregators: OpenRouter.
  • Custom: Any Anthropic / OpenAI compatible services.

3. I already configured GLM in my terminal. Do I need to do it again?

Yes. Z Code and CLI tools are separate systems. Use "Connect" to log in to your account or manually add the key in "Manager Models".

4. Codex and Gemini are stuck on "Loading" after clicking Connect?

Ensure:

  1. You have a stable internet connection (with VPN if necessary).
  2. Your account has the required permissions for Codex/Gemini.
